From Kokoro #111 - Cosmic Jackrabbit Samurai Warrior

I'd photographed the Big Obsidian Flow in Central Oregon in the mid 1980s, attempting to make images with a view camera and its cumbersome tilts and swings while not slicing myself In the razor-sharp obsidian. Those images failed — universally. Ever since then, I've wanted to go back, and finally had the opportunity to do so last year. Photographing in color, I was surprised to see how intense the reflections were off the glassy rock surfaces. This isn't at all what I had pre-visualized 35 years ago. I like these far better. I guess sometimes you can go back, but the destination may be a totally new one.
