That Which Cannot Be Denied, 1993
At the time I made this photograph, I remembering thinking that these black shadows and the submerged roots of these trees spoke of the deep subconscious mind we fear to acknowlege. I find it spooky, compelling, a bit frightening like an unnamed fear that haunts me for unknown reasons. I've resisted printing this image for over 15 years. It still bugs me, but it's time for it to see the light of day. Maybe, like a ghost, walking towards it will make it disappear.
