I would be remiss if I didn't acknowledge the inspiration for this photograph — a very similar one made 60 years ago by photographer Wright Morris. His is better, but perhaps mine is no less heartfelt.
I opened this drawer and immediately thought of his image. Do I photograph it even though I know it's copying something I've seen before? Of course I do! How else do we learn other than by being inspired by and sometimes even trying to reproduce the work of our betters and artistic ancestors.
