From Kokoro #014 - Dark Waters

Digital photography started for me in 2002 with the purchase of my first digital camera. This image comes from one of the last rolls of film I shot with my old, dearly loved Arca Swiss 6x9cm monorail view camera.

This decaying tree stump reminds me of some creature rising up from the murky waters. It was this image that inspired this installment of Kokoro. I didn't see it this way when I was photographing. I knew I had to underexpose the negative to preserve detail in the highlight reflections of the sun behind the clouds. That dark exposure captured a new potential for the image with this creepy tree trunk. I'm all in favor of the lucky accident.
