Cape Perpetua #32, Oregon Coast, 2005

Sometimes the gods smile on us photographers. The light was glowing, the surf was up, the clouds were threatening, and I was enjoying the moment. I was set up here to photograph the surf and had made about 100 exposures in various compositions from these rocks trying to capture just the right combination of crashing waves. I was about to pack up and move on, when I saw the light begin to glow even more. I decided to make just a few more exposures when this flock of birds landed on the rock to the right. With the next crashing wave, they all took flight simultaneously. It was a thrill to be there at that moment.
