From Kokoro #035 - Life Itself, Part 1

Luck is always welcome. Just as I was ready to make this exposure, I spotted a dust devil up the hill headed directly into my composition. When the photo gods smile, just keep pressing the shutter.

All the images in this series have been considerably tweaked. In particular, I adjusted the white balance to a much warmer tone than the daylight balance default. These images are what the place felt like — always the goal in personally expressive photography.

I also had to add a great deal of contrast for the black cinder to render in the photograph how it appeared to my eye. I've never experienced black, black ground as far as the eye can see. This is a magical place, albeit one that gives photographers a serious challenge.
